Sharon, You make a great point. Even in an online course students can "feel" through comments and directions if the instructor is comfortable with the technology. If you don't trust the technology, why should the students. Good post! Dr. Kelly Wilkinson
Kathy, I love your post!!! Yes, we have work to do. I ask my online students to tell me what they think worked or didn't work at the end of a course. I also ask them what was the good things and the bad things they did that affected their learning in an online course. You would be amazed how honest many of them are. I share this with my new online students. Dr. Kelly Wilkinson
David, I like this. Have students talk about the way they learn and how they plan to look for engagement in the online course. I would also ask them the same question at the end of the course to see if that changed. Dr. Kelly Wilkinson
Kathy, Wow, what a great post. You make such good points through out your post I don't know where to start. I think one of the most important point you make beside the technology achieving the learning objective is the practicality of the technology doing that it is suppose to do and providing instructors with the information they need to to assess. this doesn't always happen and it is so frustrating. Also, the skill set of the students makes a big difference in the experience of the student. We cannot ignore that. Dr. Kelly Wilkinson
Todd, You are right, but I have to ask. Does your school require students to own a computer? Dr. Kelly Wilkinson
David, What a great post. I agree about the technology tools. I actually use YouTube clips even if they are not as interesting if they are short and task specific, or I have student figure out how to learning in the way they prefer. They don't care for that strategy much but that is the real world learning environment. Dr. Kelly Wilkinson
Dawn, You make a great point. You want students to connect the learning with previous learning, experiences, and real life experiences. Students tend to retain the knowledge better and longer. Dr. Kelly Wilkinson
Dawn, Great post! You are right it must measure what it is suppose to measure. You don't want it to measure how well students use the technology. Students need to be familiar with the technology. Dr. Kelly Wilkinson
Amanda, You make a great point. You don't want the technology to be the barrier to learning. You as the instructor also want to make sure you can get the assessment information you need to measure student learning and evaluate the course. Dr. Kelly Wilkinson
Amanda, I agree the delivery of the content cannot be the same. When you change from f2f to online the objectives are the same it is how your achieve those objectives. Dr. Kelly Wilkinson
