Matthew, Great post. It doesn't need to be over complicated for the instructor or the student. You don't want it to be the learning or teaching barrier. Dr. Kelly Wilkinson
Richard, You are right, the assessments are so important for us. That is our accountability too. Dr. Kelly Wilkinson
Richard, You are right and how they fit with other technology used in the learning environment. I always check the LMS to see what it has to offer first, then if I choose something outside the LMS I look to see if it will integrate. Dr. Kelly Wilkinson
Todd, You are right and that doesn't always happen. It needs to be user friendly for both student and instructor. Dr. Kelly Wilkinson
Kathy, Can you make notifications and still meet the objectives of the course? Dr. Kelly Wilkinson
David, Have you thought of creating cues in your online that students can use to let you know they are not sure? I know I have used a key word or phrase that might be the "don't get it look" I have tried using a clueless discussion board that can be used to determine gaps in learning. Dr. Kelly Wilkinson
Kathy, That is true, particularly when students are not comfortable with online environment. That is where we may become a coach or a guide in the learning along with the content expert. Dr. Kelly Wilkinson
David, I really like your use of term situational. This is such a great post and is really the truth. I think this would improve student success in any teaching environment. Dr. Kelly Wilkinson
Sharon, Great post, yes you can create your own successful teaching style in an online environment. Students need to understand the online classroom environment and includes you developing a teaching routine. It can be done. Dr. Kelly Wilkinson
Sharon, It is and I have to say we don't have it at my institution. It is interesting when we "bill" our online learning as anytime, anywhere we need to back that up with support. (that is not always what happens). Dr. Kelly Wilkinson
