These tips are great. I will make it a point to incorporate reflective, thunk and hypothetical questions. Creativity like role-playing, presenting different scenarios in a hypothetical situation will encourage the application of their knowledge.

First I think the most important thing is to provide a safe space for all students. I will encourage those whose comprehension rate of absoption lags other students by redirecting questions to add to their response. This will give value to the student's answer, even if it was wrong.  Probing and funneling are skills I intend to implement. Knowing when to ask the right question will not overwhelm students.

Most questions asked by instructors are 80 percent open and closed with 20 percent being procedural. Of the 80 percent, 60 percent are closed and 20 percent open. Procedural questions as discussed is 20 percent. To increase open questions is to follow up closed questions with "why" and ask students to expand. First and second wait time is usually rushed. Instructors need to include everyone so wait times can be increased without it exceeding and creating long silences. Think-pair-share is a useful way to increase class retention of knowledge and participation.

I learned that there are two types of questions: closed and open. Under open questions there are three subgroups: comprehension, application and procedural. I learned that comprehension questions use comparison, extrapolation, translation and interpretation. These types of questions help the student and instructor understand what the level of learning is for a student. Maybe the instructor needs to go over something. Application questions use real life scenarios, the student will apply their knowledge to solve a real world problem. A minor category consists of procedural questions like "Is everyone on the right page?'

Types of written tests may vary from the most used, multiple choice to the less used: essay questions. There are also fill-in-the-blank tests, matching questions and short-answer tests. Multiple choice tests cover a wide range of objectives.

Performance tests or skill tests include performing a task, such as showing an examiner the ability to safety wire.

Diagnostic tests are used to measure a student's level of knowledge they already possess and are used mostly at the beginning of class. This gives the instructor feedback on how they should tailor the class.

Student Learning Assessment

There are two types of assessments we need to familiarize ourselves with as instructors: formative and summative. Formative assessments are most popular and traditional. Students take a test, regurgitate answers and that tests their knowledge. These assessments can also include quizzes, labs, projects or special assignments. When trying to understand how much knowledge and application of knowledge (SKILL) the student has incorporated, a summative assessment is made. Summative assessments can include objective such as asking students to recall facts that are relevant to their field. A subjective summative assessment can involve problem solving, formula applications, studies found… >>>

Questioning as a Teaching Technique:

Question and answer sessions help the instructor understand if the students are grasping the knowledge being presented. There are many types of questions that can be asked. Important notes to consider when asking questions is whether the question is relevant to the material being presented. It is imperative to remember that education is a dialogue between student and instructor. There are different delivery modes of asking questions, all designed to engage students and not let the information become obsolete.

Instructional Delivery and Assessment

  1. Learning style affects how a person: acts in a group a, learns, participates in activities, relates to others, solves problems, shares information, works and even deals with stress.
  2. Learners are affected by tendencies and preferences such as environment, emotional, sociological and physical aspects.
  3. There are different strategies for visual, written word, auditory and tactile/kinesthetic learners.
  4. while auditory and written word learners make up most of the populations learning style, my challenge will be incorporating interesting visual effects and providing ways to incorporate MOVEMENT/tactile action within classroom learning.

I am prepared to encourage students that the information covered in the classroom will be relevant in the world of aviation. There are many career paths that can be followed after earning the Airframe and Powerplant Certifications. I have enjoyed the lifetime of service to the military and civilian aerospace industries. My motivation and enthusiasm spills over when I speak to future aviation maintenance technicians.

By staying enthusiastic and engaged myself, the mid course slump can become more manageable. A good way is to practice the acronym of REFOCUS. Story telling should be considered during long, arduous lectures. The important point is to keep the class interesting. Developing trust and respect, ie rapport with the students includes learning their names and something interesting about them. Encouraging students to reflect on how far they have come and all they have accomplished will motivate them.
