Thanks, Deidra! Habits usually refer to behaviors. What are some of the specific behaviors you see in your successful students?

Thanks, Steve. Is there one thing that just keeps getting in the way of others?
Research on retention shows that building a sense of community makes a big difference in persistence rates. Potlucks help to build community in the school and field trips have a way of linking the students to the community and the profession.
Students who come to us for help in areas outside of school are demonstrating that a bond has been built and that they trust us. We need to be sure to have ready access to outside resources of which students may avail themselves in times of need. We can give advise, but sometimes they need professional assistance.
Carol, You are showing them that you are a "similar other." Students can relate to that.
Thank you, Carol. A long time ago I was taught that it was important to "catch your students doing something right." We do need to correct goal-defeating behaviors, but the best way to get students where they need to be is by rewarding the behaviors we want. A kind, positive word is a pretty good reward to most folks.
Calling absent students is a pretty common practive at career colleges. The calls are only effective to the extent that the caller is genuinely concerned about the student and is offering to help them in some way. It seems that is what your team does.
Thank you, William. I believe sharing the concepts TPI teaches can go a long way in helping students achieve their goals. It is nice to hear that you bring those concepts to your classroom.
Christopher, What are some of the observable behaviors of the students with well-developed HABEs?
Good strategy, Christopher!
