Activity

Chris, thanks for this feedback. It sounds like you are working to ensure a friendly environment for your students. This can certainly help build rapport and trust with them. Dr. Jean Norris
Jennifer, thanks for sharing these tips. I love that you let the students know when you will be in the office. This shows your availability and sets the expectation for the student that you should be able to connect or not. Dr. Jean Norris
Great! Thanks for that feedback, Antonio. The communication hierarchy is a great tool and a lot of times we naturally go through these steps without even knowing it. But you are right, now you can manage it and balance the conversation. Remember the idea of making sure you have permission to move forward. Good luck. Dr. Jean Norris
Maria, interesting point. Can you explain a little further regarding your time limitations? Dr. Jean Norris
Claudette, thanks for sharing this. I'm sure your students appreciate that you listen to them and their concerns. I'm curious, what specifically do you do to engage with the students and make sure they know you are listening to them? Dr. Jean Norris
Antonio, I'm glad you feel that way. Working with a group can be beneficial because others can share their experiences too and so there may be more collaboration versus one person talking. Keep up the good work. Dr. Jean Norris
Maria, that's a great point. Keeping the interest of everyone in the group can be difficult, but it sounds like you will try to make the conversations a group effort and engage each person. Great job. Dr. Jean Norris
Interesting Brittany. When the two people on the phone have a common agenda or purpose, it would be difficult to get side-tracked, but when the plans differ, that sounds like when you may run into problems. I wonder, what could you do to help get you and your student on the same page? Dr. Jean Norris
Maria, thanks for sharing this. I'm curious, what specifically about the phone helps you achieve your goals? Dr. Jean Norris
Perla, that is great awareness. So you are looking to create a new plan in order to have a little more structure to your interview. Do I have that right? By doing this, you can also have an agenda to let the students know what will be covered throughout your meeting. Let us know how this new approach works for you. Dr. Jean Norris
