I learnt about importance of analysing readiness of instructor and student to online instruction, motivation, time management and need to plan for accomodations for students with special needs.

I will link the analogy of excellent organization of a closet or space to effective time management.

A rubric for communication, collaboration and safe community is key to student engagement in quality discutions and learning outcomes.

I have learnt about how to develop policies guiding participation, how to measure good communication, how to promote community values and how to create rubrics for communication in an online environment.

My take is that, an effective communication process, student quality engagement in discussions,  collaboration and use of communication rubrics connected to course objectives enhances safe community that results in assessment and better learning outcomes.

 

The best guide in having an effective communication process, keeping students engaged and having a healthy online community is always doing (saying and writing) unto others as you would want them do unto you. 

I have learnt about the different generations, their strenghts, weakness and best ways to ensure effective communication with all of them. I have learnt ways of engaging students in an online environment, challenges and how to assist students to become successful online learners.

My take from this course is a new insight into the differences between the way the different generations communicate which can be a challenge, but , the difference can be useful in enhancing engagement, effective communication , safe community and learning inan online environment. 

I learnt about the various communication protocals, designing guidelines for effective online communication, framework for managing overall communication and establishing a pattern for communication as well as the components in a communication pattern in interations between I2S, S2I and S2S.

I will apply a rubric objective to encourage civility, good behaviour, respect and positivity.

That there are technologies suited for communicating with individual, small, large, and social groups. That the appropriate tool should be selected depending on it's function, technical know how, availability and student need; and that the tools must be used effectively. That evaluation of the effectiveness of the technology and I2S,S2S,S2I is an ongoing process from formative to summative evaluations.

I intend to learn effective use of as many on-line communication tools as possible and continue learning new ones that are applicable for the students.

I have learnt the different ways to use to transfer a F2F course to an on-line course, the 4O's, engagement strategies and providing on-line content. 

My take away is that it's easier to develop a new course rather than transfer a F2F course and that communication,engagement,  feedback and modification are very critical in on-line teaching.

I have learnt about the different roles of an online instructor, and importance of effective communication, interaction, teams, safe environment and feedback in achieving positive learning outcomes.

Communication and feedback is the key.

I leant the importance of contrasting when to use synchronous and asynchronous learning methods, developing delivery guidelines, facilitating instruction and that establishing a consistent pattern of devilvery is critical.

The knowledge was very useful and I will begin to use feedback to help me establish course guidelines, consistency and establish an effective pattern of delivery, communication and better outcomes. 

I will also have a first day guideline outlining course expectations, objectives, content, assessments, submissions and due dates.
