From this module, I have learned that evaluating an online course is a complex process involving multiple stakeholders and data sources. It is insufficient to rely on one evaluation method or stakeholder perspective to improve the course.

I have also learned about various evaluation methods that can be used, including course grades, syllabus scans, assignments and examinations, portfolios, question tools, pretest/posttest, concept maps, structured interviews/focus groups, and peer observation/review of course materials. Each method has its strengths and weaknesses and can provide valuable feedback on different aspects of the course.

I understand the importance of providing meaningful feedback to students to enhance their learning experience and promote their success. I believe this information is useful in improving how I provide feedback to my students. By connecting feedback to learning objectives, being frequent and specific, providing a variety of ways to deliver feedback, and avoiding negative connotations, I can help students increase their knowledge and skills.

Furthermore, I need to focus on providing information to increase learning rather than justifying grades. By doing so, I can emphasize the importance of the assignment or project and show that I care about the… >>>

This module taught me that scaffolding involves building on prior knowledge and experiences to develop more complex learning structures. I have also learned that providing clear instructions, clarifying purpose, keeping students on task, offering assessment, directing students to worthy sources, reducing uncertainty and disappointment, delivering efficiency, and creating momentum are important tasks for instructors to ensure that students are building appropriate scaffolding.

To apply these concepts, I can use these strategies when designing an online course or teaching online. Using a consistent course framework, providing clear instructions, and directing students to appropriate sources, I can help students build strong scaffolds… >>>

My take away from module 1.

  • Learning-objects databases are a valuable tool for course developers as they can save time by reusing materials.
  • Learning objects can be used to chunk course information and make it more manageable for learners.
  • Learning objects can be used as supplemental information or to provide remedial learning opportunities.
  • Learning objects can be accessed from various sources, including school or university technology departments, professional organizations, online venues, and textbooks with companion learning objects.

How I intend to apply what I've learnt.
In terms of applying this knowledge, I can start creating my own learning-objects databases or… >>>
