About me

I've been a career educator for over 20 years. I currently serve as the Academic Coordinator for Brookstone College of Business and continue to be active in the classroom as a Business Instructor. My motto is "A student doesn't care how much you know, until they know how much you care." I was honored to receive the Career College Association National Teacher of the Year award in 2001. I just love teaching!

Involving silent students in class

Hi Debra, I like to get my students involved in the class as much as possible. I do not allow students to pass out graded papers. Grade papers are not anyone's business other than the student the papers belong to. However, I will let students pass out handouts/any type of ungraded work. Patricia

A Student's Learning Style

It is very important for the instructor to know how to best reach their student academically to ensure the student is grasping the concept. There are various types of learners, such as auditory, visual, and kinesthetic. The instructor can give a short learning style test to determine a student's learning style so that when teaching/tutoring is taking place, the student gets it because the instructor is teaching to how the student best learns.
