About me

I've been a career educator for over 20 years. I currently serve as the Academic Coordinator for Brookstone College of Business and continue to be active in the classroom as a Business Instructor. My motto is "A student doesn't care how much you know, until they know how much you care." I was honored to receive the Career College Association National Teacher of the Year award in 2001. I just love teaching!

Hi Keelan, Some students do not care if they are cheating themselves. They just want to pass the course, but they will certainly suffer in the long run. I believe in the quote, "A cheater never wins, and a winner never cheats." Patricia

Hi Lindsey, I fully understand. We have a free program as well for students at my institution that consist of all kinds of counselors to help students overcome challenges. I refer students to this free counseling all the time. Students will weigh you down with their baggage if you allow them to do so. Patricia

Managing angry students

Hi Chris, Do not tolerate these type of students. These students need to be spoken to quickly and swiftly to let them know you do not bend the rules, and you do not need their approval to enforce rules. These students need to know that this type of behavior will not be tolerated in the workplace. Patricia

Reducing instructor anxiety

Hi Sunshine, Preparation is a sure way to reduce anxiety! New instructors should practice preparing a week in advance. Any time I teach a course for the first time, I stay a week a head of my students to ease my tension. Patricia
