About me

I've been a career educator for over 20 years. I currently serve as the Academic Coordinator for Brookstone College of Business and continue to be active in the classroom as a Business Instructor. My motto is "A student doesn't care how much you know, until they know how much you care." I was honored to receive the Career College Association National Teacher of the Year award in 2001. I just love teaching!

Hi Chris, Higher authority really needs to get involved. An instructor should not have to constantly warn a student about breaking a policy; the administrator(s) should reprimand these students as policy states. If students have illegal drugs on the premises, call the city police and have them monitor the parking area during break in an unmarked car in order to catch the students. Patricia
Hi Rob, What an impressive response! Students want to and need to know how they will benefit from the course either or both personally/professionally. Students will definitely take an interest in the course when they know how helpful the course will be in their career/life. Patricia Patricia
Hi Randall, Awesome response! You mentioned some great points! This is a fabulous course for brand new students. I really like how you let your students know that you have walked in their shoes. You serve as a great role model for your students because you certainly can relate to them because of going back to school later in life. I am sure you serve as a super motivator for your students. Patricia
Hi Sandy, Well said! As educators, we too are very far from perfect. Students would rather you own up to your mistake instead of trying to cover up your mistakes. Students have more respect for you whenever you have admitted your mistakes. Mistakes are bound to happen, confess, learn, and move on. Patricia
Hi Cynthia, I concur! We should be the professionals that we want our students to become. Patricia
Hi Norman, A great way to grab a student's attention is to ask them a question pertaining to the lesson. No one likes being caught off guard. This is a way to force students to pay attention. Patricia
Hi Rick, Students need to be kept busy at all times so that they do not have time to get on social websites, text, call folks, etc. Patricia
Hi Cynthia, Guest speakers can shed a different light on various topics. As instructors we teach theory-based concepts from the book. Guest speakers bring in real life experiences. Patricia
Hi Carol, Students take what outside sources say to heart! Students have great faith in and respect for guest speakers. They believe guest speakers. Patricia
Hi Chelsea, This is a super way for students to learn in a fun, interesting, and exciting way. Patricia
