Job development is not for the faint of heart its basically being a hiring manager that also gets rejected by companies. Being the interviewer but also the interviewee and understanding the delicate balance is where all of these techniques come in handy.

Coming from a communication background there is so much that can be communicated without even one word being spoken. This translates to how an interviewee holds themselves during an interview, how they speak and if they have good eye contact, are confident in what they know and maybe even don't. Plus, if they show they are even excited which can be translated by all of these and cannot forget the attire. Communicating to students that it is not a judgement of how you are, but it is how your attitude will fit in with everyone else and if they can… >>>

Resumes are becoming a lost art because there isn't much coaching and a lot of the advice is to just have the students use ChatGPT instead of working on it themselves and if it still needs revision to use that as last resort. I have never even been coached on a resume for some the feel it is just intrinsic but these coaching's are needed so students know what information they can't live not include versus what may not be needed. One thing they didn't touch on was personalization like color and a picture, but I have found that is… >>>

There are so many more job search sites than I knew of and will definitely pushing them to students. I did notice however, for my school's industry there isn't many options besides indeed and zip. The students are also now needing who do you know not only who do know who has an opening because that doesn't even work these days so just having good connections get you far!

Students have a need for career services even if they are not there yet. The great thing is building those relationships with employers through coaching, events, or targeted individual meetings.

After you establish a connection with the student it then becomes easier to tell if the student needs more or less help with their career goals. Depending on how much the student is needing then that determines the type of resources they may look into. There are helpfully things everywhere for students it's just looking for them but also showing them where they can help themselves.

Most students are not feeling comfortable with their points of resources due to constant anxiety and lack of confidence to talk to people even if it is to help themselves. That is why establishing a relationship quickly and early is the best thing because then the students will be more willing to talk about their barriers and how you may be a resource or provide them to overcome those barriers. Also, very cool there are certificate students can get just by showing their work readiness!

I will apply this by going above and beyond to make the students feel comfortable… >>>

Finding out that Career Services isn't really alone in trying to get students set up with a job but there are so many different resources within your institution to tap into for help and understanding. Also, the fact that there are usually 1,000 students to a 1 Career Services work is insane, but why they keep those other channels open.

I will apply all of this to understanding that every student has a different path with different hurdles, but I can point them in the right direction so their goals and wants are achieved!
