Getting the Student to stay Focus

Tough teaching is when a students or students start to wander on you.  You are working it when you can bring their mind back into the class room.  I found success by having them go to matters that they have encountered in life that relates to the material of the day.

great blog

That's the perfect opening for a new thread on a old discussion post. Maintaining student focus requires a willingness to look for fresh ideas even at a moment's notice.

I use their medical concerns to get the student excited!

Drawing the students into a discussion is a winning technique as long as they stay on the medical topic catalyst. Many of my students have had personal experince with some of the medical anomalies that we are discussing in class. I encourage them to share, as long as they do not use the names of the patient or facility.

I took students for a walk outside and then had them measure their blood oxygen levels. This re-activated their brains for remainder of the evening. It was great!

Using "real life" examples help the students alot!
