Education should be fun.

I have been an instructor for the past 3 and 1/2 years and the one overriding thing I have learned is that learnning is fun. Some may say that is not the job of the educator but I would disagree. A student who expects to have a fun and informative experience is more likely to show up to class and want to particiapate. Student engagement is the key. One way to get your students engaged is to ask them a lot of questions which becomes fun to them because they are participating and using the brain they were blessed with. Another way to make it fun is to poke fun at oneself. If the students feel comfortable and able to laugh at and with you (respectfully, of course) they will have a lot more fun.

Wow, I agree! I have taught for 12 years and I frequently use humor in my classes to engage the students. When I first started teaching, I worried about being the "authority". Now, I let go and enjoy my students more. You know what? They retain the information much better :)

Education should be fun! There need to be more interactive fun activities for students for all courses, not just some. In addition, the activities need to be well developed and even encourage students to participate together in certain activities, such as games, by way of the internet.

Education should be fun, for it you don't enjoy it how can you get your student's to enjoy what it is you are teaching

I agree with the comment.  I've been teaching for almost two years and what I have experienced is that when you are relaxed and humorous in your lessons the students are able to relax more and are able to retain more.  For example, adult learners who have been out of math and English for awhile, seem to do better when I have shared my own struggles with math by acting out small skits that involved me learning math.  They saw that I learned from my struggles and all of a sudden, it doesn't seem so bad for them.   I use different voices to illustrate English grammer and they seem to love that!  Ed 108 was a fantastic course!!  Mindy Smith
