I found ED 114 very informative and I plan to build more open-end questions into my instruction.  I use closed -end questions very effectively already, but I never really thought about doing the extra and expanding the questions into open end ones also.  This has definitely me more to think about on how to imporve my teaching and the students comprehension of the material  M. I think short student self-assessments could be used help format the types of different questions explained in ED114.  This would help instructors becaome better and help students retain/recall more of the information in class.  It would be a win-win for everyone, especially in schools where time is short and a specific amount of information has to be covered.  Mindy smith

I really enjoyed taking the ED 113 course. This course gave me some very valuable insights into how to improve my classroom management style.  It is nice to see that I am already doing some things well, but there is always room for some inprovement.  It can be a bit tricky to manage a class of mixed demographics, younger students without a lot of college and older adults going back to school to start another career. These hints will really help me in myability to become a better "Guide." Thank you.   Mindy Smith

I just finished ED 112 and enjoyed it thourghly!!  It had some great information in it, ideas that i haven't though of on raising adult learners sense of security and autonomy in class.  I'm going to try one idea of using quizzes to help the students study for their exams and "gently encourage" the chronically tardy students to come to class on time!  These educational courses are very helpful for a relatively new instructor such as myself.  Mindy smith

After taking this ED109 course I can see the value of good preparation to be an effective instructor.  I now have ways to accomplish this and can see that by following the suggestions, my teaching will have more pizazzzz!!  this was a very good course to take and I think that it will really help my adult learners.  Mindy Smith

I agree with the comment.  I've been teaching for almost two years and what I have experienced is that when you are relaxed and humorous in your lessons the students are able to relax more and are able to retain more.  For example, adult learners who have been out of math and English for awhile, seem to do better when I have shared my own struggles with math by acting out small skits that involved me learning math.  They saw that I learned from my struggles and all of a sudden, it doesn't seem so bad for them.   I… >>>

This discussion has been VERY interesting!! I am a relatively new instructor and perhaps have not developed an overall sense of the student types yet, but I have noticed that there are two types of students for sure in my health care classes.  One group are the older folks who are changing careers due to the economic stress and they bring a fierce determination to succeed to the class room. Then there are the ones who are used to being given all the information so they can pass or get by with a minimum of effort.  Sadly, some of that… >>>

I just finished ED 102 and I must say WOW!!! what a helpful course to take as a new instructor.  I learned quite a bit about methods of student motivation and I can see that the ideas could also come in handy for instructor motivation as well.  Taking these courses has really helped me to reduce my anxiety about just starting in a teaching role.  Everyone has had wonderful ideas to contribute.  Mindy Smith

This course was very informative as to helping students with learning challenges.  I will be able to make use of several of the scenerios to increase my teaching knowledge and help my students.  Mindy smith
