11 Tips on Effective Team Leadership

I have had the honor and opportunity to blog previously on team-building and team leadership, but I ran into these additional pointers below and wanted to share them. Effectively leading your team to performance results requires 

  1. Matching specific tasks to the knowledge, skills and abilities of different team members 
  2. Clear expectations from the leader and identified resources are crucial to completing a team project
  3. Ground rules are a must
  4. Encourage participation through praise
  5. Hear, speak, show, do - in other words, lead by example
  6. Balanced teamwork among members requires effective delegation
  7. Make sure team members know why they have been chosen for a task, role or project
  8. Motivation is a result of individual buy-in
  9. Share your observations before your reactions when providing feedback - it sets the stage for a collaborative work environment
  10. Set accountability guidelines
  11. Support and praise small steps along the way as team members reach specific benchmarks or accomplish sub-goals on their way to the final result
