Effective Strategies to Engage All Students in CTE Learning --> Inclusive Classroom Practices
Post what you've learned about this topic and how you intend to apply it. Feel free to post questions and comments too.
I've learned that inclusive teaching means understanding students' needs and helping them succeed in different ways. I use hands on demonstrations, group activities, and individual support to help students learn and build confidence.
By teaching students on a semi-individual basis makes for a more inclusive classroom. Self-paced learning works well to a degree but the process must be guided carefully.
I learned that inclusive classroom practices help create a welcoming and supportive environment where all students feel respected, valued and comfortable participating. I plan to apply this to my CTE classes by incorporating different teaching strategies, encouraging student participation and providing additional support when needed.
I think the greatest thing for me to take away is realizing everyone retains information differently. As instructors it is our duty to ensure we recognize these learning styles in our students and adjust accordingly.
This session has reiterated that student-teacher relationships are important: getting to know your students, discovering their strengths and weaknesses, and meeting them where they are. The strategies covered help ensure your classroom doesn't become a cookie-cutter classroom and encourage differentiated instruction. Implementing gamification, tiered activities, peer tutoring, and community involvement are great ways to reach students who may struggle in a traditional classroom and to reveal strengths neither you nor the student knew existed.
