COMPREHENSIVE CAREER DEVELOPMENT BY ALVERINE RAWLINS KAN 109
Factors like gender identity, race or ethnicity, socioeconomic status, family, geography, ability, personality, and opportunity play, to varying degrees, a part in the development of one’s career path. This makes the journey through the five stages of career development is an extremely personal and private involvement for each individual. Becoming intimately familiar with these stages provide a roadmap for identifying the difficulties of one’s career, acquainting oneself with more informed decisions, achieve better preparation for future challenges, and strategies for success. Identifying where you are in your career journey can inspire you to take charge of your professional development, seek growth opportunities, and find a balance between your personal and professional lives. By embracing each stage with mindfulness and intention, you can develop a satisfying career that supports your values, goals, and aspirations.
I intend to apply career development in my classroom by inviting other business instructors alumni, and local employers to speak to students about activities and requirements of the workplace, required technology and communication skills, sample job functions for different positions in given companies, so that students will be able to make connections between course content and real-world applications. Local employers can also help students to develop project based experiences that can add value as they apply for employment. Additionally, I will encourage students to listen, participate and model informational interviews with professionals or alumni as a course assignment. I will also incorporate report writing, research on performance of companies, critical thinking and data analysis of companies.
