Language Barriers

Any suggestions on how to instruct and receive feedback from students with a language barrier?

Chad,
Something I have found helpful was to get assistance from my local Literacy Council. These folks help individuals in developing their written and spoken language skills. They have a lot of strategies that will be helpful to you. Have your Student Assistance Office contact them for you and then sit down with them and explain your challenge. I know they will be able to help you with your communication with these students as well as to how you can create study guides and guided notes for these students.

How do overcome the cultural language barriers ?

I find that individual tutoring sessions works better for these students, especially if you can have a translator available. Also having them focus on vocabulary in new material

I have found tutoring also works. I have had students who spoke multi-languages in the same class to volunteer and help thier classmates. I do try to refer them to any support services that the school may have.
