In my field of work as an instructor in a trade school, it is imperative to model the skill to be learned.
by using real life scenarios it also provides an idea of things they will run into while on the job,things that sometimes books dont explain.

Students love to hear stories from their field. These stories show the students how the content that is being taught can be applied and why it is relevant.

Instructors if watching and hearing and seeing can understand how to reach all the different learning process of there students. You may not reach all or part until they put there hands to the job that's when the reward comes for students and Instructor.
I also agree with you,in that in my classes,I also try to show my students the relevance to what they are learning through applications.
