If the course material is uniformed and consistent, students will have a better understanding, they will not be confused and they will ask fewer questions when it comes to directions.

I have always shown empathy for students when it comes to unexpected mishaps in life. One way I prepare myself is to explain to the students, at the beginning of the term, is that once in a while in their studies (as a student) life can get in the way. Sometimes these events are positive but more often it can be negative. As adult learners, they need to be prepared for these events and not to fall behind before something unexpected can happen. I want the students to be upfront if they think they will need more time, I will… >>>

I have always believed that getting everyone to participate and being an active learner is important for one to recall information learned. I think hands-on participation and recall is vital to learning. However, I find it challenging teaching online. Not only is it hard to recognize a class of 30 plus students the computer moves students all around. Not to mention you have two pages of students. How are others meeting this challenge?

Sometimes to get my students engaged, I give an example of an experience I had as a nursing student. Then I let others share what they are experiencing in their setting as a student. It breaks the ice and there is always something to learn from an experience.

Yes, I believe that a list of students and their attributes, concerns, and goals will only help you as an instructor to keep your students on track.

I love getting to know my students and in return, I reveal a bit about myself that way together we personalize the class. This way the class begins as an open forum to reduce fear so that all will be more comfortable to participate.
