Jane, I also use evaluations as a source to gather student input, due to the limited time of my institution's terms. In addition, I provide quick surveys, at periodic times throughout the term, to assess their interest in the course. Tremayne Simpson

Jane, This is a great method for assessing student comprehension. Actually having the students complete assignments in class, gives the instructor an opportunity to see if the student is able to appropriately apply learned concepts. In addition, "teachable moments" can be created based upon the types of questions or concerns that the students have with the assignment. Tremayne Simpson

Gerald, Creating a "Democratic" style classroom can be advantageous for the instructor, in that the students can clearly feel that they are true stakeholders in the direction of the class. Do you have a formal or informal system of gathering student input for the class lesson planning? Tremayne Simpson
Phillip, I agree with your post. In addition, it works well when the learning objectives are aligned for courses that are in a sequential format. So once the student has pass the pre-requisite of a particular course, they will be confident in knowing that they will have success in the next level class. Tremayne Simpson

Jennifer , Thank you for your post. It is important that instructors create a relaxed classroom environment, in which the students can feel comfortable with participating in discussions. As an instructor, I have periodically provided the students with quick, "ice breaker" activities (prior to the lecture), which have assisted in the level of student participation during the lesson. Katrina, This is an excellent way to assess student learning styles. Have you encountered situations where the student(s) may not know what type of learner they are? Tremayne Simpson
Gerald, I agree, finding ways to create student discussion is important to the lecture. In many cases, the student discussion can enable an instructor to expand on the concepts and present additional examples. What are some ways that you encourage your students to participate in the class discussion? Tremayne Simpson
Phillip, This is an excellent assessment. We should encourage students to understand the importance of "networking" and developing relationships, as they prepare for their future careers. Tremayne Simpson
denise, Thank you for you reflection. Instructors that naturually utilize the Learning Taxonomy concepts, generally have a strong understanding of the subject, desired learning outcomes and their students. Tremayne Simpson
denise, These are great examples of viable, instructional resources. It is important that the students are able to visualize actual "applications" of learned, course-concepts. Tremayne Simpson
