Pearl, Is your course conducted as a "Hybrid" course (combination of "on-ground" and online) or is the Sympro trainer assigned as a course supplement? Tremayne Simpson
andrew, Enabling your students to compare and contrast techniques is a great way for them to apply concepts that they have learned in class. What medium of technology do you assign for them to use, to complete this assignment? Tremayne Simpson
Discussion Comment
Terry, College students invest in their education, therefore I agree that instructors are obligated to conduct class for the entire, scheduled time. However, it is important that the content is useful to the students and it is not just created to "hold the class" until it is scheduled to end. Tremayne Simpson
Alexandra, I am sure that your students appreciate this integration of technology. Do you find that your students (in general) are able to understand course-related concepts easier, using the application? Tremayne Simpson
Julie, This is a general issue with career colleges, in that we acquire students from various backgrounds and skill levels. How do you adhere to the students that are well-versed in regards to computer literacy? Do you provide them with alternative assignments to keep them engaged, while you get the others "up-to-speed"? Tremayne Simpson
Thomas, Is this the final course project? Tremayne Simpson
andrew, Do you divide your course topical outline into advancing levels of difficulty based on the learning taxonomy? Tremayne Simpson
David, What types of assessments do you use to gage when your students are ready for more advanced-level assignments? Tremayne Simpson
Colin, I agree, the course objectives should have a direct connection with all of the course content. When students are not able to see the connection in a particular assessment or an assignment, it is a good idea to discuss the relationship to them, even if it is indirect. If not, students may lose focus on the assignment and possibly the entire course. Tremayne Simpson
mark, This is an effective way to explain the importance of course learning objectives to students. I use a similar analogy, however I compare it to a video game (we have a large game design program), in that each objective represents a level and as we conquer the levels, we are able to acquire the desired skill.
