The importance of planning and managing your instruction. Beging aware--and even revisiting--the common challenges of teaching online is important to user-center design.

Using a variety of online tools is important to include all learners; however, it is important that online teachers assess which tools are appropriate for each task and the learning objective.

Delaying a communication can cause more unnecessary frustration that could lead to withdrawing.

To evaluate a learning community for a sense of belonging, look for students communicating academically and personally. Collaboration—with cooperation—assists students and groups in being successful towards a common goal.

 

With the lack of nonverbal communication, it is important to not misinterpret messages. Account for generations and read messages for content and possible misinterpretation such as tone or humor. It is important to remember that online learning is not for everyone, but still share any suggestions to help students be successful.

 

 

Students must know the communication protocols and consequences and simple netiquette rules—a teacher cannot assume they have taken prior online courses. The protocol sets up a respectful environment conducive to learning.

Communicating with students is vital to learning and relationships. Selecting the appropriate tool for the audience and message is important so the message does not deteriate.

Consistency and labeling, as well as using the correct teaching methods is imperative for successful online learning. I plan to evaluate student feedback to "clean up" my existing online courses.

Developing a course that blends learning can promote student engagement. Evaluating student engagement and outcomes to the teaching method and communciation is just as important.

The value of communication and the importance of consistent organization. I plan to audit my current online courses to verify my content "flows."
