I learned that it is "okay" to not teach all the functions of a technology used in a class. It is important to carefully select the correct technology tool to support learning.

 

Multiple evaluations are needed to support learning and instructional evaluation is needed to verify relevancve and effectiveness.

 

I never considered exit tickets as a possible assessment tool prior to this module. I am trying to find a way to implement it in an upcoming course.

 

I learned the importance of a Q&A section not only to save time and reduce frustrations for the student, but also the instructor. I plan on adding a Q&A section to all of my online classes.

I learned how important chunking is and that students lose focus after 10 - 15 minutes when watching a video. I will use videos throughout a module to break up content and to help reduce cognitive confusion.

Ensuring students do not feel alienated during the entire course--not just the beginning of a course--is the instructor's role, which can be addressed with regular interim progress reports and surveys. I will start chunking course workloads to help students from becoming overwhelmed by the amount of work required to complete an online course.

General principles of synchronous discussions to not waste some students' time and add to their frustrations.

How important the biography is for both parties in order to form trust and relationships.

The importance of orientation to not overwhelm an IT Department, but also to decrease student frustration.
