Mark, You are on target. You need to know who your students are (audience/level of students), what you want them to be able to do (and make sure you communicate that clearly) and how communication/feedback can be shared on an interactive level. Thanks for your input.

Ty, Thanks for your input. Consistency is important. Students will be able to find information and figure out where to submit assignments, communication, etc. more easily when the course design is user-friendly. If you have students in more than one of your online courses, they will recognize that this is "Kerstetter's" course and I know exactly where things are. Also, if you have multiple sections of a course, the consistency between courses is also helpful. Thanks again.
Brian, Peer evaluation is an awesome opportunity for you to get feedback from others who have or have not taught the course. If they have taught the course, they know what to expect from students and how the course should "look and feel." If they have not taught the course, they almost have a student's perspective as they are trying to navigate the course and consider the layout, design and user-friendliness along with content. No matter what peers are looking for or evaluating, it's all good feedback. Thanks!
Edward, I agree that peer evaluations are not used as often as they should be. The more feedback you can get the more details will have to revise your course and make it better. How do you use the feedback you get from students and peers?

Brian, I agree that starting with something positive even if it is "Thank you for submitting your work on time." or "I see improvement in your work from your last assignment." is a great thing. You want your feedback to be personal (as you said individualized) because each student may need help in different areas. I like the idea of a 2x2 matrix. Also, it is very helpful if the students are involved in peer assessment and provide feedback to each other. Sometimes when students hear feedback from several sources, they feel that it is more helpful especially if they… >>>

Edward, Thanks for you input. The syllabus is one of your key forms of communication. Providing anything you do in a variety of ways is helpful in the communciation process as well. All of this leads to the dynamic syllabus as things change and the students provide feedback. Nice job.

Edward, You are on target. Could you provide a bit more detail as to why you think they are important? Thanks!

Brian, Thanks for your input. You are exactly right on the dynamic syllabus. This is one of the major and most important communication tools you have. My online course syllabi tend to be much longer than the syllabi for traditional in-class courses I have taught. Keep up the good work.

Tisha, Making any course student centered is essential. The objectives make it clear to the students what they are to achieve by the end of the course. These are essential in the design of the course. Thank you.
Tisha, You are right. Feedback from several sources is a good thing. Students can provide detailed feedback about course specifics. Others (especially peers who have taught the course before) can provide feedback from a different perspective. Nice job.
