Donald, Going right to the source (the students) is great. They can provide much needed feedback and will be honest with you. Once you get the feedback, use the information to make the course better. Online courses tend to be a work in progress on a continual basos, Nice job!
Donald, Yes, this should be obvious, but many times we get overloaded and give feedback quickly and sometimes it's not that meaningful. So, you are right - meaningful, reiterate learning outcomes, be consistent and fair. Try to also start with something positive. Thanks!

Donald, Right on target. The course objectives/outcomes are essential. The course is built around these for any type of course. And, as you note, organization and structure are key components as well. Great job.

Donald, Thanks for your input. You are clear and succinct on the important topics. Nice job.

Jill, You are thinking correctly. Even if you haven't authored a course you know the important items that must be included. Just as you might expect, they are things that must be include in any course, whether traditional face-to-face (F2F), blended or pure online. Thanks for you input.
Mark, There are many important things for sure, I just wanted you to think of a few so as not to be overwhelmed in this one discussion board post. This is something to keep in mine when asking students to discuss important points online. You are right that the evaluation process is continual. Obtaining feedback from others provides you with information from many points of view. All points of view will assist in making changes and developing a better course. Thanks!

Mark, Nice job. I like the way you organized your thoughts and discussed briefly how these items are important. If you want good teaching evals when you teach in an online environment, these are all essential. However, be careful with "continually." I always define for students what "immediate feedback" is on any email, discussion board posting, etc. Twenty-four hours is my "immediate." I found out early on in teaching online that is I respond to every email, every bit of communication, every posting, etc. within 5-10 minutes. . guess what - students expect it. Just tell them up front what… >>>

Mark, As you know there are many important consideratinos for teaching online. You have hit on three of them. I believe communication is key. Developing that syllabus to effectively communicate the expectations, grading scale, what learning management system will be use, what books they neeed, etc. are just a few things in the syllabus. Communicate, communicate, communicate. Yes! As you pointed out, it's not only important to use the technology correctly, but effectively. And, it's important to use the correct technology. Thank you.
