George, Again, thanks for the organized thoughts. When we think about meaningful feedback it certainly includes tone along with specific and detailed information. It must also be timely and consistent and help students improve. Thank you.

George, Thank you for your well-thought out response. You provide good information in this forum. Diversity is as you note not just culture or race. You are right on track when you realize that past knowledge and experiences are included. Are you referring to the students' confort level with the content or how the instructor approached the content to deliver it to the students individually? And, you are correct in noting that feedback is essential. Feedback (responding to students) should be a continual process. Nice job.
Clayton, Yes, the Start, Stop, Continue method is very effective in gettting feedback from students so that projects, assignments or the way you are conducting class can be altered for everyone's beenfit. You are right taht you may not be able to do everything the students want, but you must address the issues and explain why you cannot do it if this arises. Thanks.
Donna, AWESOME! You are right on target. Yes, evaluation should be done on a continual basis. Just like learning, it's a lifelong process. Excellent point.
Donna, Thanks for your input. I like the point you bring up about the fact that if students wait too long on feedback their motivation and passion will decrease. Students do appreicate consistent, timely feedback. As you also noted, begin clear, positiveand concise is also appreciated. The more feedback you can provide that helps students improve, is the best thing. Nice job.

Dennis, You bring several good points to the table. I like the statement "feedback should be given with the intention that" students will redo. This type of formative feedback is essential to help students improve. Nice job. You are correct in that some platforms may restrict what you can/cannot do. It's important to think outside the box and sometimes work around the system. Thank you for your input.
Lynn, It is GREAT that you use students feedback throughout the course - formative assessment. So many times just a few questions to students like: What would you like for me to start doing? What would you like for me to stop doing? Waht woudl you like for me to continue to do? can make all the difference in the world. Just be able to justify why you cannot start doing something if you can't do it. For example, a student may suggest that you stop giving tests! ;-) Nice job.
Lynn, You are so right by starting on a positive note. Stuents need to know that the feedback is relevant to helping them improve as well. Being timely and consistent is also key so that students know what to expect and when to expect it. Nice job.

Rob, You bring up a good point without even thinking of it. . .content, the subject matter many times does play an important part of how we teach. All content, however, should be provided to the students so that they see the relevance in the material covered and communication is essential. Nice job.

Ellie, Thanks for your input. You have mentioned important aspects of authoring online courses. Knowing how to set up and organize the course is essential. And, the navigation is also important. Make sure the course outcomes/students expectations are also clear and provide a list of due dates to students as well. Nice job.
