Jennifer, Students do provide much needed feedback to the instructor. You should ask for formative feedback throughout the course and summative feedback at the end of the course. However, if you have the optin of asking another instructor to review the course, this will also provide good feedback for course revision and content delivery. Nice job.
Jennifer, You are right one. Being timely, consistent and specific in your feedback helps students get the individualized feedback they need. This helps them improve and be more responsive to learning. Nice job.

Corey,

Students initially email by habit.  I then email them back and tell them their question would be a great question (if pertinent to the course and not a personal question) to post on the FAQ discussion board so that everyeon may benefit from the Q & A.  So, the access is still there. . .just not in your inbox. . .and others can answer the questions.  By using these tips and being consistent in following these rules, students learn quickly how to get the answers they need when they need them.  Now, you do have to check the FAQ… >>>

Many times when we become online instructors, we feel like we become a 24-7 instructor who has to be online all the time.  I learned the hard way that if you respond immediately to a student's email or posting on a discussion board, they will expect it every time.  I also learned that if you make an assignment due on Monday at 8:00 a.m. because you want students to have the weekend to work on the assignment, you better be online all day Sunday because that is when they will have questions.  By learning the hard way, I have developed… >>>

Dalene, I love your wording about the syllabus: "robust and specific." That is a great way to explain it. The syllabus must have complete information and be specific when explaining assignments, tests, project, learning outcomes, etc. Knowing you students AND know what they already know (diagnostic testing) is valuable as you develop the course as well. Nice job!

Dalene, Nice job. You are definitely thinking about what students need to learn, how to connect them to the students' "real world" and make them relevant and how you will deliver the content. These seem like clear cut easy steps, but at times are very difficult. Communication is a key element. Make sure you communicate the learning outcomes to the students and offer content a variety of ways. Thank you.

Jeanette, I am glad this module was helpful. It's great to see how you are now thinking differently about communicating with and teaching students of all ages. You are right that it is very different than teaching face-to-face (F2F) with "typical" students. Nice job.
Tod, You are right on track. Nice job. Developing feedback to help students improve definitely combines what you have discussed in this forum. Thank you.

Tod, Great ideas and steps to authoring your class. Even though many times you don't have to start from scratch on design, it's important to know what content you have and how to present it effectively. Students learn in a variety of ways, so present information in a variety of ways as well. Also, provide a variety of outlets for assignmetns as long as they meet the learning objectives. For example, allow students to make a blog, wiki, presentation, concept map, etc. to meet the assignment requirements. Nice job.
George, Tell me more about the Quality Assurance Specialist evaluation. That sounds interesting. I like your term 360 degrees evaluation. We must, as instructors in an online environment, look at all angles to make the teaching and learning better. Thank you.
