Donna, I like the way you provide an answer and a question. These are good questions to ask yourself when you begin thinking about teaching in an online environment. It's important to not that the instructor must feel comfortable with the technology and figure out which technology will help students achieve the course objectives/outcomes, etc. Nice job.
Peter, You are correct: immediate, positive and it should help improve learning. What you have to define for students is what is "immediate." Immediate for me is within 24 hours. Some online instructors indicate 48 hours is immediate. It's important to let your students know what is immediate so they don't expect feedback in 10 minutes. ;-) Thanks.

Krystal, You are correct in that there are many things to think about. Thank you for your input in such an organized fashion. Considering convenience for the students may also mean that you do not meet synchronously at the same time for each class meeting. They can operate in an asynchrouous environment as well. This takes planning. Providing information in a detailed fashion (and organized) is helpful. You are exactly right. I also like the fact that you are discussing diagnostic assessment - what do the students know. Sometimes it's fun to begin a lesson, teach a little bit about… >>>

Gail, Also remember that not every tool has to be used and you must assess the purpose of using the tool. Continuing to try new tools to see if they meet your and your students needs is a good way to anlayze the tool. But, continue to determine if course outcomes are being met and ask students for feedback to see if the technology helped or hinder reaching the outcomes. Thank you.
Gail, These are two important steps in communication. When you develop a safe online environment, students feel more comfortable expressing their needs. Thanks.
Thomas, It's never easy. ;-) You are right in that a variety of evaluations provides a variety of information. Asking students for feedback or asking a colleague for feedback will result in different perspectives. You also touch on qualitative vs. quantitative data and you are correct. You may need to get facts and numbers in different ways. Thanks!
Thomas, Thanks for your input. Providing timely feedback that is meaningful helps students improve their learning. When using a rubric, please include the learning outcomes/objectives in the rubric as well so students can connect what they are doing to the expectations. Nice job.

Many online instructors encourage students to complete an online self-analysis to determine if they will be good online students.  However, in actuality, instructors should each complete a self-analysis to see if they are prepared to be an effective online instructor.  Instructors have different teaching styles, strengths and weaknesses.  Instructors should ask themselves some basic questions such as:

·        Do I have the necessary technology I need?

·        Am I comfortable with using technology?

·        Have I taken an online course?

·        Am I organized and detail oriented?

·        Do I… >>>

Christine, Thanks for your input. Can you explain further about how the syllabus structure, size of the class and methods are important considerations? Thanks!
