Stephen, Take time for yourself and your family. It's OK to take a day and not be a 24-7 instructor. The structure and balance will come. Let students know when you will NOT be checking email and take the time.

Rafael, Don't become that 24-7 online instructor. You have to take at least a day for yourself Try FAQ discussion boards in which students can answer peers' questions to alleviate some email overload. Try some tips you find in these forums. Thanks!
Stephen, And, I seem to have more interaction online than in my F2F courses. ;-) It's funny how each class is different and each environment brings different challenges. We do have to work in an organized fashion to set time aside to get done what we need to get done - as we work on priority management. Thanks for your input and keep plugging along! You'll see the light! ;-)

Carol, No worries. You added so much to the conversation in this posting that we'll overlook any others! Ha! I think they key to connecting the success of the performance to the purpose is to actually put the objectives in the rubric. I connect each component (typically one row) to the objectives I am measuring. Then students can then see what they are working toward and the purpose of the project/assignment. Hope this is helpful.

Carol, Welcome back! I'm glad you found time to "catch up." Thinking about the process and product separately sometimes helps us, and our students, think carefully about the assignment/project. We then begin to break it down into components or tasks and see that the entire project is achievable through these steps. Nice job.

Mischel, And, it is so essential to make sure all students understand the expectations so they are clear on how to achieve the learning outcomes. You also list other benefits for using rubrics. Right on!

Sarah, This sounds interesting. . .why would they not want to share the information with the instructors - the ones who can make edits to the course and make it all that it needs to be. I would email the administrators and ask why they are not shared, but also list all of the benefits to sharing the information. The benefits include enhancing teaching and learning. What better benefits? The feedback can also be seen as formative feedback for your teaching and they can watch student grades increase as the course gets better from the feedback. Then, the administrators can… >>>

Teresa, Thanks for your input. Thanks for posing your thoughts into questions so others will know what to ask. Good job.

Rafael, Remember too, that priority management is important too. So many times we just fill up our calendar with times and things to do, but don't really think about the priority of things. Thanks for your input. You are not along. ;-)
Rafael, FAQs can eliminate so many emails from students. You going from a 20 page document to a 3 page FAQ is fantastic!
