My role as I.T. is to help all students and when it comes to serving students with disabilities I have an obligation to make sure that if their needs exceed my scope that I help them find the resource at the school that can address that concern for them.

The responsibility of the institution is to provide equal access not increase chances of success. Accommodations are meant to boost and equalize access to learning by addressing the need created by/related to the disabilty.

The "other" students that include groups like those with ADS and traumatic brain injuries are protected. Accommodations for them might come in the form of having a better understanding of their disabilities and patience to help them overcome their obstacles.

Disabled persons have federal protections that ensure equal opportunity and access to learning resources.

Consent is a voluntary agreement that cannot be given by someone who is mentally or physically incapacitated or below the age of consent. Consent with one person does not imply future consent or consent with another person. Consent may also be withdrawn at any time.

Once an institution has been put on notice of potential sexual harassment or violence, the institution is required to begin investigating which includes fact-finding, any hearings, and decision-making processes used during. The investigation is to find out: if the conduct occurred and what steps must be taken to make safe and ensure that the learning environment stays safe for all students and employees.

Incidents that should be reported to the Title IX Coordinator or Responsible Employees are any that may be discrimination based on sex or gender, and also sexual violence. Once they are made aware or were reasonably made aware, the school then on notice and obligated to take immediate and appropriate steps to find out what occurred and provide reasonable accommodations to the victim as necessitated by the impact of the incident.

Title IX is meant to provide a safe and supportive learning environment for all students and staff. I will apply this knowledge to help the institution remain a safe and supportive place.

My role in supporting students with disabilities is to do my best to treat them the same way that I would treat other students and not let my preconceived notions or personal experiences regarding disabilities affect the quality or type of support I offer. My role is limited to the scope of that of an I.T. support specialist; I am not qualified to make decisions or recommendations (promises or assurances) regarding disability services or accommodations, but I am expected to have the knowledge to properly route a student to the department or person that is qualified to help the student… >>>

Documents regarding disability and proof of disability should be managed by as little people as possible. One such person would be the disabled services provider of the institution. This person would help provide and identify whatever accommodations are necessary. Assuming they have conferred with staff/leadership, they may be able to solely approve or deny a requests for accommodation.
