About me

My name is Walter Clement.  I am a Sergeant with the Detroit Police Department. I have been with the department for more than 28 years and have served the department in various capacities. I was an Academy Instructor, Sex Crimes Investigator, Special Response Team member, and with the Grants and Contracts Administration Unit.  I was the Project Director of the Community Policing Empowerment Zone. I am also a supervisory member of the Underwater Recovery Team as well as a patrol supervisor.  I was thinking of throwing in the towel, until the economy crashed. My retirement cushion evaporated causing me to increase my stay.

Currently, I am assigned to the Police Training Center as an FTO supervisor, instructor, grant writer and anything else my boss finds for me to do. I am still having fun teaching classes and working at CTU.

I graduated from Eastern Michigan University with a BS in Criminal Justice.  I Graduated from Colorado Technical University with a Masters in Business Management and a MBA in Human Resource Management.

Hello Debbie

Teaching online requires expert time management in addition to the highly developed verbal and written communication skills required of all instructors; classroom and online.

In the on ground setting, communication is a bidirectional process.  With online, however, the communication process is asynchronous.

The online instructor must use voice inflections to assist effective communication.  It is the voice… >>>

You stated “If the instructor is passionate about the information being studied, there will be a genuine attempt to present the material in as many ways as possible.”  I wholeheartedly agree.

To clarify my previously statement, a student performing very well is prima facie evidence that he/she is already in touch with their learning style. An instructor need only address problem students.

A career school (or trade/vocational school) is a school wherein students are taught the skills needed to perform a particular job. It is true that these schools have not historically existed to further education in the sense of liberal arts, but rather to… >>>

I submit that learning styles are moot when the student already possesses the ability to grasp the information.  Those students are already cognizant of their respective learning styles and are able to make their necessary adjustments so as to achieve success; irrespective of how the information is presented.

I further submit that responsiveness to different learning styles can assist in restructuring your presentations to accommodate variations in reception.

All students are not adept scholars. Some have limited vocabularies.  Some are more attuned to the written word than the verbal.  Some have attention deficits.  Some do not know how… >>>
