Once you understand what the student is looking for, you can help guide/advise them to help set up their goals in which will help them further their education.

I've always felt that listening is key to good communication.  Not enough people actually listen to what students say.  By listening and being engaged with the students, they will see that the instructors care about what they are saying and might be more open to more discussions and feel like what they are saying means something.

I do not think students should be considered customers.  They should be considered an investment on their return. It's their investment and we should be the ones ( institution) that should help them achieve their goals.

We as instructors need to understand that outside factors can be challenging to adult learners.  Adult and younger student do learn differently and we need to make sure we everything in our power to we eliminate barriers that can hinder the adult student.

This is very informative.  At times I've had students show me something new on the computer or even on the phone.  It gives the student some empowerment.  I teach them as they teach me.  It's a win-win.

I enjoy asking questions to the students to get them actively involved.  Receiving their input, makes them feel more empowered during the conversation.

Valuable information that I will be able to use.
