About me

I have a passion for education and especially for ensuring that all of us continue to apply what we have learned.  I am excited about the opportunity that the Lounge provides for all of us to discuss how we are applying what we have learned & to share those great ideas.

I have had a varied background from secondary education to corporate training & now working in the career college sector.  But while I have moved in different circles it has always been surrounding my passion of education.  I look forward to our conversations.

Yes,yes, yes! Great point Stephanie & one that is way too often overlooked. It is so important to listen first & always approach a conversation from the standpoint that there are different viewpoints & methods & we need to be understanding of those differences. Ryan
Patricia, Great job. All of your points are good, but the point about a logical progression really resonates with me. I believe this is incredibly helpful to an audience. Ryan
Absolutely. And the listening needed is deep, what we call level 2 listening. Listening so that you truly hear the concerns, passions, etc behind the words. Ryan
Discussion Comment
David, Thank you for your comments. I agree with your distinction between managing & coaching & agree that each has its respective place & purpose. Ryan
Cheryl, Great point & so true! I'm glad you mentioned this because audience size can definitely be a factor. Don't be afraid to tailor to audience size & in fact that can be very helpful. Ryan
Thank you for the transparency. I'd say we are all very guilty of this at times. Ryan
Cheryl, Great ideas. And I'd add, don't be afraid to tell the audience what is in it for them. Ryan
Cheryl, I apologize for the delayed response, I've been in the process of moving the past week. Great ideas for preparation. I believe a key point that is often overlooked is knowing who else is speaking. This can help you know how to tie together or what topics to avoid. Ryan
Liza, I apologize for the delayed response, I've been in the process of moving. I commented to someone else that when you come from the standpoint of knowing your audience & always keeping them as your focus, I believe you have won at least half the battle. Great ideas. Ryan
James, Definitely the common theme I hear in your post is knowing your audience. I believe when you start with this you will always be in a good position. Ryan
