About me

I have a passion for education and especially for ensuring that all of us continue to apply what we have learned.  I am excited about the opportunity that the Lounge provides for all of us to discuss how we are applying what we have learned & to share those great ideas.

I have had a varied background from secondary education to corporate training & now working in the career college sector.  But while I have moved in different circles it has always been surrounding my passion of education.  I look forward to our conversations.

Performance TV Interview: Maryse Levy, Vice President of Education and Career Services with Education Affiliates, discusses how staffing affects educational outcomes and provides hiring, on-boarding, evaluation and ongoing development perspectives and strategies.

This document lists the different ways that you can share and learn through this group in The Lounge.

If you’ve just completed a training course, please consider responding to the three self-assessment questions below. Your responses will help you and other participants to get a head start on the transfer of training process.

  1. What have you learned? Write a brief summary of what you’ve learned.

  2. How can you apply it? List one or two ways in which you can apply what you’ve learned in your professional practice.

  3. What support do you need? Identify any support or additional information that you may need to apply what you’ve learned.

Welcome to the brand new Management Performance Group! Simply put, this is the 80-20 rule in action! It’s probably safe to say that 20% of development is through formal training and 80% is through informal learning. We learn by doing and by sharing. So let’s get our learning community for Management & Leadership started. Who is going to break the ice?

Richard, Great points & both are a crucial part of communicating. Managers too often think their job is to get others to do things rather than listening to their concerns & ideas. Ryan
Kenji, Power point can be a great tool. What other options do you see, especially if there is not an option for power point? Ryan
TJ, Great delineation of the skills needed for managers & also great observation regarding self-management. Often managers are merely high-performing technicians who have been suddenly promoted & so this can be a real struggle. Ryan
Discussion Comment
Absolutely Charles. I would also add that coaching is supporting the employee while they are striving to achieve that goal or complete that task. Great job. Ryan
Greisy, Great thoughts. I appreciate that you put "sometimes directive." I think too many people feel that being supportive & a good listener is contrary to being directive. I believe that you can be effectively directive while still being supportive & truly listening to the other person. Ryan
Well said, Amy. It's interesting to me how many times it does seem like the presenter understands the value of what they are saying. How can the possibly expect the audience to understand it then? Great comments. Ryan
