About me

I have a passion for education and especially for ensuring that all of us continue to apply what we have learned.  I am excited about the opportunity that the Lounge provides for all of us to discuss how we are applying what we have learned & to share those great ideas.

I have had a varied background from secondary education to corporate training & now working in the career college sector.  But while I have moved in different circles it has always been surrounding my passion of education.  I look forward to our conversations.

Agreed if a goal can't be measured I would definitely consider it unreasonable. Sometimes you have to get creative in how you measure, don't you think? Ryan
Great points all, but I especially like the reminder to enjoy yourself. You are so right in stating that if you are enjoying yourself your audience is much more likely to do the same. However if you are miserable it can almost be guaranteed that your audience will be miserable too. Ryan
Absolutely & definitely important to find out the position or level of your audience. While you may speak on the same topic to a variety of audiences, the particular information or angle may be somewhat different based on these factors. Ryan
So true & sad that this was an education conference. I am definitely a fan of less is more, as long as you are prepared & know your subject & audience as obviously this man did. Ryan
Earl, That is great & so glad to hear that you have them do presentations in every class. No matter your career choice, you need to know how to construct an effective presentation & how to string your thoughts together. Ryan
These are all great ideas/suggestions for preparation. I especially want to highlight the need to find out if this is a voluntary or "mandatory" audience. This really does make a big difference in how you approach your audience. Ryan
Great suggestions. I especially want to emphasize knowing where you want to go & how you plan to get there. I have heard many speakers who did not seem to know where they wanted to go. And I have also heard many who seemed to know where they wanted to go, but really seemed to be clueless as to how to get there. Ryan
Tipton, Good suggestions...How do you go about knowing your audience? Ryan
Earl, All great suggestions. It is very important to practice some of your movement, especially if you need to be close to your notes or technology. Ryan
I think you make a great point for all of us to consider. At times it can seem as if the process is top-down, when in reality the "top" has done a good job of seeking input & thoughts from all levels. In this way it really is a "meshing" of the two forms. Ryan
