About me

I have a passion for education and especially for ensuring that all of us continue to apply what we have learned.  I am excited about the opportunity that the Lounge provides for all of us to discuss how we are applying what we have learned & to share those great ideas.

I have had a varied background from secondary education to corporate training & now working in the career college sector.  But while I have moved in different circles it has always been surrounding my passion of education.  I look forward to our conversations.

Another great example of tailoring to the individual. This is so important in coaching & making sure that we don't have a "formulaic" approach where we treat everyone the same. Ryan
Yes, you nailed it. A coach, among other things, must be a person of high integrity & authenticity. Ryan
So true, nothing can substitute for the individualized consideration we can & should have for each of our employees. Ryan
Great plan & I think this illustrates an important point. There are different levels of goals. Sometimes we have to live with the big, overarching organizational goals, but we have an opportunity (as you illustrate) to engage employees in determining personal goals that tie in with the big goals. This is a good approach when using "coaching" in the performance coaching context. It is always good to get the person to think through their behaviors & reflect on how that impacts others. Keep in mind that coaching is also a very effective tool to help employees with their career development & not just reserved for correcting a problem. Ryan

The researchers were engaging the workers in conversation & asking about what they were doing, etc. This caused productivity to rise, reason (when they asked the workers) was because they felt like the managers cared about their work & consequently them. This to me is the beginning point of coaching. A good leader/coach will engage his/her workers in discussing their work as… >>>

Jeffrey, Several great points in here & I'm glad the course was beneficial. I am a huge believer in developing my replacement. In fact, the better we do at developing others, we may also be developing our next boss & that to me is a high level of success for a leader. Ryan
I totally agree. And along with this, we also need to make sure that we are keeping the coaching free from judgement. If we start doing too much of this, then the coachee will shut down. Ryan
Great ideas, one in particular caught my attention. I highly recommend sharing the objectives & outcomes of the presentation. Tell people what you hope they walk away with & they will be more likely to do so. Ryan
Great plan Henry. All of these are key components to an effective presentation. Ryan
