About me

I have a passion for education and especially for ensuring that all of us continue to apply what we have learned.  I am excited about the opportunity that the Lounge provides for all of us to discuss how we are applying what we have learned & to share those great ideas.

I have had a varied background from secondary education to corporate training & now working in the career college sector.  But while I have moved in different circles it has always been surrounding my passion of education.  I look forward to our conversations.

This sounds like some great ideas. I also like to take the different personalities into account so that students learn what it's like to work in a real-world work team. They will be working with a variety of people in their jobs & I like them to be aware of this. Ryan
Eye contact is a powerful tool to show respect as well as authority/control in the classroom. And you are right that it can help in maintaining the attention of those students whose minds might wander. Ryan
This is a great strategy. What a great way to engage both sides of the "generation gap." As you said your adult learners have a chance to share what they've learned in their experiences & the younger students have a chance to learn from them & their experiences. Ryan
Discussion Comment
Definitely true. We are coaching our students & encouraging them to push themselves & achieve more. We are also managing processes & progress in the courses. Ryan
Yes, trust, credibility, integrity are powerful characteristics in a leader. And I think you make a good point regarding being careful what you promise. Some also promise everything with good intentions & then kill themselves trying to deliver. We need to be realistic in our expectations of ourselves & others. Ryan
I agree with you Steven. I have worked for a large national organization before & generally most of the desired outcomes came from above. However, our regional areas had a great deal of freedom to design methods, tactics, strategies, etc. Ryan
Yes, getting to know each student personally allows us to know how best to help them, especially if they have a learning disability of some kind. Ryan
Yes, for me personally I like the 3-4 group number. I think that gives good interaction & a quality project. Ryan
This is great & poor eye contact is often a mistake by new instructors. The better the eye contact, the more engaged our students will be with us & the content. Ryan
I too use a group grading sheet for group project. Part of the grade is based on the peer feedback they give one another. I have found this to be an effective way to gather input & for most to feel the grading is then fair. Ryan
