I agree that retention of students is very crucial, we are a Team Oriented Institution and if we cannot maintain from start to finish the retention-attention of our students we not only "Failed Them" but "WE FAILED AS A TEAM"!! When this happens then the "INSTITUTION FAILED". Our students count on us to be their mentors, sometimes in alot of aspects of their lives in and out of the class atmosphere, they set goals and we need that retention-attention to work across the board to help them achieve "The Goal".

I also refuse to believe that  saying "Students Who Just Don't Get It", if their not getting it then what are we doing thats hendering them from "Getting It"? Instructors are there to instruct, so whats the hold-up? why aren't they getting the material, the lessons, the lecture, and any other part of the education we should be providing them with? I do agree that a large percentage of their learning (in the beginning) falls on the instructors since we are the instructees, but the students have the responsibility to be accountable, through retention as well as the "TEAM" Organization all working… >>>

If students are held accountable at the beginning of any course they enroll into then there will be no reasons for second chances, but students as well as instructors should still have high standards and goals, since they do go hand and hand with each other.

In order to completely understand a particular area that has become a problem, you need to make sure you have all necessary facts regarding the issue, then breaking down the problem for analysis would be easier. By: Stacey Lester

You might want to try the: Tell, Tell, Tell Technique:

Tell the student what is going to be discussed.

Tell the discussion.

Tell them why it was discussed.

We know that we have our students attentions within the first 10mins. and the last 10mins. of teaching a material, thats when we need to make our lessons to instruct them count during this time frame.

In organizations such as career colleges, we are all part of a unified team, it takes all departments within our organization to achieve the common goal of not only our company success but for our students success. Without all of us acting as a team our system and environment will fall apart and students will never reach the goals they have set for themselves, and we would not be able to help them see their vision and help them reach it.

To help students become motivated in their learning and educational experience we need to assure ourselves first that every individual within the entity of an institution inspire and motivate our students not to just listen to a lesson or orientation but to be a participant as well. We need to make sure we are teaching with the aspiration that not all students have the same learning style's and that we focus on all types of learning styles and abilities for student retention and success in their chosen career's.That in turn determines success and goal setting, along with retention.

I firmly believe that we as Instructors play such an important roll in helping our students create a vision and then helping them achieve that vision, some students we have to give more encouragement too in order to help them see that the vision they have is a "realization for Their Success", and that makes our jobs as Instructors so vitally important. Our students count on us. How we perceive their "vision" is not as important as how we help them reach it!!Then we are successful and so are our students.

I am a firm believer that when we hold our students accountable they are more receptive to their goals they have set for themselves because they know we have also set high goals for their success.
