Activity

It is important to direct and formulate questions to students based on the overall objective of what you will be presenting.

Active learning is more preferred with adult students.  This is because a variety of learning materials can be used, they can practice tasks, and they are often more enjoyable for them.

Some examples of active learning include debates, role-playing, brainstorming and hands-on modules.

There is a teaching modality called backwards chaining that can be effective.  It involves teaching the end skill / application first.  Then the instructor works them through the steps to get there for the required proficiency.

As an instructor, you can tell how well your activity reinforces learning by tuning into the energy of your class.  If students are engaged, they are more apt to know and understand the presented material.  When designing activities, it is best to consider the different learning styles that students have.

Using light and color in a classroom can make it more inviting to students.  Music can also be used to set the mood and enhance the learning environment.

If the classroom turns chaotic, the SAT method can be used.

Essay questions require more effort from the students than other types of questions.  They test for critical thinking and problem-solving skills.

Problem solving skills are difficult to assess with objective testing.  It's better to assign in class problems and watch students work through them together.  This also helps them to see the importance of teamwork.

Questioning is a type of communication and there is an art form to it.  Questions must be at the appropriate level for the class and worded properly.
