Susan, That's great. Be sure to visit the Career Lounge to let us know how you are doing and to ask any questions you may have. Sheri Leach
Susan, Don't forget to let us know if you have any questions. Use the Career Lounge to ask questions and share your thoughts as you start to implement some of these processes. Sheri Leach
Amy, I am inspired by all that you are doing for yr students, these are great relationship building strategies. Does everyone in your department do the same? Have you seen that they placement rates directly correlate to the attention? Sheri Leach
Jennifer, These are excellent ways to get onto the community and showcase your students. Can you share at least one best practice from your PAC meetings that you believe has helped you place your students? Sheri Leach
Susan, You make some excellent points. Regarding increasing student attendance, consider holding the events during school hours, make them part of the curriculum or part of an assignment that is graded, have the instructors talk it up and attend as well. Consider having smaller events (where your expectations for attendance aren't as high). Use these to get the word out, then build on that. Sheri Leach
Jennifer, That is a pleasure to hear! Do your instructors also discuss career related information with the students? If so, how does everyone teach the same thing/send the same message? Sheri Leach
Jeremy , It is great that your institution is already addressing this issue. Can you share one of the best practices that you already have in place? Sheri Leach
Theodore, Online programs have specific challenges. To reach students to assess their skills and barriers, you can try email campaigns, develop an activity/assignment to identify barriers and enlist the help of other instructors and staff members. Sheri Leach
Margaret, Have you considered meeting with Admissions on a regular basis and informing them about what types of jobs the graduates are getting? By regularly giving this information, the Admissions team will be more informed when they speak with potential students. By sharing this information, your two departments will be working together and over time can work on other joint activities for the benefit of the student and institution. Sheri Leach
