It was helpful to larn that accommodations are only necessary to provide access, and not success.  Often, prospective students adn their parents expect to recieve the same guarantee of success that they becase accustomed to in K-12 education.  This distinciton is critical in determining what is a reasonable accommodation.  

As an experiment, I tried to use the reader porvided on the website to see how it would feel to be visually impaired while participating in an online class.  Interestingly, the reader kept stopping before reaching the end of each page.  This helped me to understand how frustrating it would be to have a disability and to need to rely on techonologies to assist me in succeeding.  If I had not had the use of my eyes, I would not have known that the reader was cutting off some of the content and woudl not have known how to navigate… >>>

I found it interesting that, even though the law allows it, no institution has ever been permitted to deny a reasonable accommodation based solely on undue financial burden.  

It is not sufficinet to simply complete an audit.  Audit findings shoudl contribute directly to establishing a new process to ensure future compliance so that findings are mitigated.  

Various accreditors and state regulatory agencies have different formulas for calculating placements rates.  These mandatory formulas often result in different percentages which are statistically disparate.  Unfortunately, new federal Borrower Defense to Repayment regulations have further complicated the matter by requiring insitutions to count  students who are waived by an accreditor or state regulator to be counted as not placed in the new BDR publihsed palcement rates.  Further, BDR regulations will not permit any student who was employed in a particular field prior to graduation to be counted as a placment.  It is no wonder students are so confused . .… >>>
