Activity

Yes it has, Angela, although students still require guidance and skill development, as you suggest, to accomplish the wonderful things that are now feasible using new technology. Instructors are also well challenged to learn the skills they need to facilitate the learning of the students in technology-rich learning environments.
Discussion Comment
Yes, Angela, access and flexibility are the essence of Internet technology. I would also suggest that customization and self authoring are among the characteristics that will continue to evolve the technolgy into the future.
Hi Donald, I agree with your thoughts here: both the learning styles and learner autonomy can be addressed quite effectively with blended delivery. I would also suggest that instructors have the opportunity for using a variety of methods and learning supports in this kind of course.
Discussion Comment
I agree, Tomi, and one of the greatest benefits of each of these is that students gain opportunities to raise and develop their own voice in learning and, therefore, raise their confidence as well.
Yes, Tomi, I like your ideas about writing and the consideration of ideas (thinking). Also, the notion of learning exchanges having purpose is so important for both students and instructors - efficiency.
Indeed, Dianne, while we can observe the nomadic characteristics of students today we should also be aware, as instructors, of how to contextualize their learning within realistic and relevant applications of use.
Good points, Dianne. I agree about negative and positive influences of Internet use in student learning. I would, however, suggest that the concept of Wikipedia is very much the essence of new technology use - multiple sources and general publication/collaborative spaces. I think we as instructors while emphasizing the difference between reliable and unreliable information to students should also maximize the concepts behind some of these technology uses. Creating collaborative online working spaces for students is a wonderful way to enhance learning.
Yes, Dianne, and the role of the instructor as you say changes, however, remains vital in the process.
Discussion Comment
I agree, Dianne. The problem is, however, that technology is changing so quickly and it takes time to explore benefits to instruction. Therefore, we often don't realize the full potential of the technology immediately. That is why I encourage current instructors to keep an open mind and be willing to continually try new technology in their classes and bring students into the exploration :)
Yes it does, Dianne, and also challenges instructors with various approaches and methods in their delivery. This makes for a richer experience for everyone.
