About me

I have 30 yrs military experience and have had to use my skills to be a leader. I have just as much time as being a manager. I enjoy being a leader because it gives me more of an opportunity to mentor

I taught in the military and taught in civilian schools, most recently in a post secondary business college.

Interests

there isn't too much i don't like

Skills

i see my instructional skills as a asset. i consider myself a very good raquetball player and constantly try to learn any new skill i can

Activity

I enjoyed ED114 because not only did it reinforce a lot of what I practice in the classroom- it also opened my thought process on the concept of 'wait time' which I use but maybe not as effectively when I get the correct response from the first student- something I have to look at more closely

I find most of these courses not only informational- but as a positive reinforcement for what I do in the classroom. It is refreshing to see my classroom management work- and then get positive concurance as to why it was successful. On issues that may not have been as successful as I would have preferred, I now have options

I don't excuse it because of being introverted. I don't excuse it for not being the smartest. Assuming the others have good leadership traits, they will help that person move forward, if they really want to.… >>>

Being in an institution where retention is a concern I have detailed discussions with faculty and staff pertaining to the issue. One point I have been able to convey was that making it easy isn't going to help retention and that there needs to be a degree of self-responsibility that goes hand in hand with helping the students. Retention is the key to recruiting not the other way around. WHy work twice to keep the same student. I do believe that incoming students need an honest assessment of the curriculum they wish to pursue so they take it knowing its… >>>

I found this not only to be true but items than are currently used in the institution where I work- And - points that I have to convey in 'customer service' courses

Time management can be a componet of good business or good instruction EVERY day- there is only so much time to conduct so much business. In the case of instruction, say in the field of HISTORY. History increases in volume every day but the time you have to instruct it remains the same. So do we just keep deleting and condensing to get all the important facts in or do we make the points that are the most important center on the rest of the topic. Of course the answer is B, and we take for granted that the time… >>>

It should also be noted that this should be a reoccurance of experienced teachers- to avoid their comfort zone of being 'experienced'
