Students with disabilities, whether they receive accommodations or not, should be learning how to advocate for themselves from a young age. This requires the support, instruction, and feedback from parents and teachers, so that the students can have lifelong success through secondary and post-secondary education.

There are so many ways the brain can present differences in processing, attention, memory, and behavior. It's important for instructors to be aware of what students are going through so they are given the right accommodations and supports.

Students with learning disabilities are varied and need an instructor who understands their struggles and is willing to provide supports or modifications for them to learn the content in a method that they can understand.

Being aware of the resources and areas of support, especially for children who are at greater risk of attempting suicide, is another step to support our students and children.

Recognizing that a student is experiencing emotional pain and taking action by giving them the immediate support they need is a plan all teachers should be aware of.

Digital self-harm was a new idea to me, but it makes sense that students with depression would use that as a communication tool. As a teacher, and a parent, this course gives me many tools to support youngsters.

Many of these facts were known to me, but some were surprising. Knowing the risk factors and how to surround students with as many support systems as possible will be my goal for helping students who are at risk for suicidal behavior.

EQ is important to have, especially for people who work in areas where they are interacting, helping or inspiring others.

Common sense is the most important soft skill, and paves the way for all of the others, including understanding others, accepting criticism, and teamwork.

The idea of a flipped classroom appeals to me because I've always been a teacher who runs a project-based classroom. I believe the hands-on approach of flipped classrooms allow the students and teacher to collaborate, learn through different modalities, and exercise their learning strengths.
