I now understand more about what my program advisory board should be doing. I did not know about sending out pre-meeting and post-meeting communications. I also had not been instructed about the need to train my board members. I can see how we have just had an annual meeting to meet accreditation requirements, but now I have the tools to make it a more effective arm of our school.

This course was an eye opener regarding developing the KSAOs before actually recruiting. It truly makes sense, but I hadn't considered this as a formal process. I also didn't realize that employee testing could be less expensive than face-to-face interviews. I have had to take tests at one or two other places I applied in the past, but didn't know where they stood on accuracy. It was also good to confirm what questions to ask and which ones to avoid. Very uselful course that can be applied to my current job position.

I think the KSAOs is a great idea, but when hiring a nursing instructor, how can you best ensure the knowledge and skills? Sometimes their having a license and many years of experience still doesn't mean they know what they are doing or the material they need to teach. Any ideas?

@ksnype0518 : We have a wide variety of ages in our school, but I too have run into students wanting to do bare minimum to pass assessments just so they can graduate and get the job. Very few exibit passion for the topic being studied or go over and above requirements to gain more knowledge. And when assignments are made to assist them in obtaining information beyond the textbook, there is a lot of moaning and groaning. I hope one day they will recognize the benefits of the work they must do.

@mfaudree : I agree 100% with you. How do you deal with administration when they lower the standards so that a below-average student can still pass a course?
