About me

Hello! My name is Omar Garcia Rodriguez. I recently completed my DrPH in Environmental Health and also hold an MS in Epidemiology. I have extensive experience in biostatistics, public health research, genomics, and cancer studies, and I have taught and mentored students at various levels.

I’m passionate about applying scientific research to real-world problems, particularly in public health, environmental health, and epidemiology. In this course, I hope to learn new teaching strategies and connect with other educators to enhance student engagement and learning outcomes.

Outside of work, I enjoy exploring scientific innovations, reading about new research in health and environmental sciences, and contributing to academic discussions.

Throughout this training, I learned the importance of intentionally integrating technology, communication strategies, and learner-centered approaches to improve engagement and knowledge transfer. One of the most valuable takeaways was understanding that training is only effective when learning outcomes are applied consistently in real-world settings, not just completed for compliance or certification.

This training reinforced the value of using modern tools—such as learning management systems, collaborative platforms, and digital communication channels—to support active participation, feedback, and continuous learning. I also gained a stronger appreciation for constructivist approaches, where learners build understanding through interaction, reflection, and applied experiences rather than passive instruction… >>>

Technology offers public health educators powerful tools to reach and engage communities. Social media platforms can be used to share reliable health information, promote awareness campaigns, and interact with the public in real time. Virtual reality and simulations allow students or community members to experience public health scenarios, such as outbreak responses or environmental health assessments, in a safe, immersive environment.

Blogging and v-logging provide opportunities to communicate complex health topics in a relatable, visual way, making scientific findings more accessible to the general population. Live videoconferencing and streaming enable workshops, seminars, or Q&A sessions with experts, reaching audiences who… >>>

Incorporating technology into education goes beyond lectures—it transforms how students and instructors manage and share information. Tools for file management and collaboration, like cloud drives, learning management systems, or shared documents, make it easier for students to access course materials, submit assignments, and work together on projects in real time.

Information sharing becomes faster, more organized, and more interactive. Instead of relying solely on email or in-class handouts, students can access readings, videos, and resources anytime, while instructors can provide feedback efficiently. This approach not only saves time but also encourages teamwork, accountability, and active participation, ultimately enhancing learning outcomes… >>>

Hey everyone,

I’ve been exploring ways to make lessons more interactive using tech. Tools like Google Drive, OneDrive, or SOHO let students access materials and even work with data themselves, which seems to boost engagement.

What tech do you use to share resources or make presentations more hands-on? Any tips on what works best with students?

Hi everyone,

I’m curious about how you’ve been using technology in your teaching. In this module, I’ve learned a lot about integrating social media, interactive tools, and multimedia to make lessons more engaging for students.

I’m wondering: what strategies or tools have you found most effective in your classroom? Have you noticed any impact on student participation, understanding, or motivation when using these technologies?

Looking forward to hearing your experiences and ideas!

Comment on Suzette Phillips's post:

In this module, I learned how social media and technology can be leveraged to enhance teaching and learning. I now understand that these tools are not just for communication or engagement—they can actively support collaboration, personalized learning, and access to diverse resources. For example, platforms like discussion forums, educational apps, and social media groups can create interactive spaces where students share ideas, ask questions, and receive immediate feedback.

I intend to apply these strategies by integrating digital tools into my lessons, encouraging students to participate in online discussions, and using technology to provide supplementary… >>>
