I would have liked more examples of coaching in ML118 to help me for the final exam.

This was the first time I took a course which was all audio. I have to admit that my preferred method of learning is visual so I struggled a bit more than usual on the quizzes. It was a different experience. I felt the material was important so I was thankful when I could print the summary at the end of the course.

This was the most recent post I could find on EL108 and I would agree it was a good course with useful information. The facilitator had great discussion forums which made me think about my students and how I could apply what I learned. I've already made notes to begin next module. I will be providing them the 7 learning priciples for starters. I will also encourage them to build a calendar with due dates and more importantly work hours based on their individual schedules.

What are the reasons these schools are closing? What can be done to stop it?

I think marketing to students, the public, and the government can help to demonstrate how necessary these schools are for society as a whole.

I signed up for this class and was pleasantly surprised. I like how it began with the explanation of how learning works and then proceeded to teach different strategies that could be used with students to facilitate their learning. This class was put together very well and has provided me with very useful information.

Ask the students if they would be interested in mentoring. From personal experience I found that when given the opportunity i was glad to do it. Another "selling" point is explain to the student how mentoring can help them enhance their own skills and knowledge. Being able to help others is a great skill that will cross over into being a professional.

In small classes I found myself having the students work together quite often and help each other. I tried to point out strengths and weaknesses that they could use or learn from to benefit in the class.

Having been a student in a four hour class prior to teaching I found the following helped:

a. breaks 5-10 minutes every hour or 1.5 hours

b. various teaching methods: lecture, group activities, hands on, review questions and discussion, etc. I agree guest lecturers are great.

The classes can be tough especially in the evening after a full day of work for students and instructors - some days will be better than others - try your best!

Interesting findings. I've always been one to highlight, review, and rewrite notes in order to retain information.

I would probably incorporate non graded quizzes into the classroom but then it would require carefully selecting the information so the most important is used. I like th idea of spreading out the study sessions, I would probably revisit topics randomly and frequently so students would be able to access their memory banks and if not there begin storing the information.

I have always taught small groups and adapt my teaching style to what the student's will most benefit from and then focus on their weak points. This keeps me interested in changing my lesson plans and seeing the students benefit and progress.
