I was reminded of the correct terminology regarding different types of assessments.  The value of variety.  Also, the importanve of rubrics.  As well as, class evaluation through studnet input.

A good assessment is both reliable and valid. Validity of an assessment is generally gauged through examination of evidence in the following categories:

  • Content: The extent to which the content of the test matches the instructional outcomes/objectives.
  • Criteria: The extent to which scores on the test are in agreement with outcomes/objectives.

As all good instructors know, teaching requires more than simply transmitting information. Instructors must reflect upon their teaching and strive to improve their teaching and student learning. Assessment and evaluation work together to guide instruction, improve student learning, improve teaching, and improve the learning environment.

Technology tools can enhance student learning and provide the instructor with a way to provide timely feedback. Technologies designed for assessment in an online environment are many.  A variety of technology assessment tools should be used to assess student learning. This provides for a variety of student learning styles.

Some criteria for classifying personal e-mail messages are:

  • Confidential.
  • Public.
  • Urgent.
  • Junk.

Treat all personal e-mail messages with the degree of confidentiality they deserve.

  • Remind learners to review the questions and answers in the Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) area before they post their questions in the designated common area.
  • Ask learners to wait for at least 24 hours. If by that time they have not received a satisfactory answer to their question from other learners, they should forward the question to you.

Interaction is likely to be higher when learners are rewarded for their efforts than in situations in which no marks are awarded.  Ensure that each learner experiences your presence in his or her learning experience.  You should also seek feedback from students on a regular basis. Solicit student feedback about how the course is progressing. Are they getting out of the course what they want? Is the course fulfilling their expectations? Are there some things you are doing that they do not like?

Online instructors must know how to influence, persuade, inspire, and energize their students just as would be done in a traditional classroom setting.

I should plan to complete the Student Orientation course (if available). Completion of this course will enable me to understand how students will be using the features of the CMS to complete the learning activities included in the course.  It is vital to provide informative and constructive feedback in a timely manner, is of prime importance to your success as an online instructor.

Blogs are set-up like conventional websites, with navigation links and other standard website features. A blog is different from a typical website in that the primary content is comprised of a periodic posting. Blog postings are text entries, like a diary or journal, which include a posting date. Blogs are hard to perfectly define, segmented concept of online information sharing.

Microblogging is basically a medium that allows the user to broadcast short messages. This provides users an opportunity to exchange brief content about specific or general topics. Microblogs may be used to allow for the quick distribution of brief information, collaboration, threaded discussions, and more.  Twitter is probably the most well-known microblog and has been used effectively in marketing and public relations as social media marketers use it to their benefit to develop business.
