I believe that when you have the students engage in collaboration and establish the guidelines for interaction early on that it creates effective learning. When instructors focus on clear directions, strong syllabus content, well-organized materials and timely feedback as we learned in ch 2 we are able to manage our online courses more effectively.  

 

I think the author was right on when he mentioned keeping in a momentum in the discussion by having the student involved and participating with their ideas and thoughts. I think when the student contributes his or her thoughts the student is more likely to learn more and at the same time reflect and use critical thinking skills to give a response. The student can also build a sense of belonging and feel more at ease to participate or ask questions.

It is crucial that we as instructors provide a good turnaround time on feedback, constructive criticism and grades in order to improve performance, enhance learning and engage with the student. I also believe that when the student is supported in their learning environment they have more confidence to ask questions and feel comfortable interacting with the class.

Our DMS program requires students to graduate with set of competencies necessary for the workforce and it is our responsibility as instructors to help students gain these competencies. Evaluating the current infrastructure currently in place will allow us to pay particular attention to student groups that may require different resources than the general population. Changes in infrastructure can be independent study, research, more teacher and student interaction or extended learning tasks.
